Diversity is the word of the day today! For years I’ve been producing mixes from many genres. Everything from 80s dance and 90s hip hop to techno and drum & bass. I’ve always wanted to produce mixes as more of a podcast and a curation without the traditionally genre’d approach and constraints.
These days DJing has evolved and we are in the era of the bedroom DJ due to the advent of streaming and Youtube etc.. DJs that are actually professional are in the minority and sadly more often not there on merit. So a majority of the mixes produced are consumed by listeners and not for dancing to. With this in mind actual mixing is less important than it was generally. Obviously it depends on the type of mix you are delivering of course.
I have some ideas of how I want to deliver some mixes ongoing and hope that they bring something a little different to the table. There are more and more DJs adopting this type of approach which is exciting news.
Tomorrow’ diary entry will be my first thoughts on the Alpha Theta DJM V5 mixer so I’ll catch you all then my friends.
