I love digging for vinyl online especially as the players on many sites are becoming more user friendly. For many years now Juno has become my go to store for records as well as many thousands of pounds worth of DJ kit. But back to the records. There has been many times when the vinyl has landed on my doorstep I’ve been a bit underwhelmed and questioned my choices. Today I am pleased to report is not one of those days.
I don’t like to buy any more than 10 records at a time. The primary reason for this is that it is my belief that a DJ should really get to know their music inside out and that is what can separate the men from the boys when it comes to delivering a solid well put together set. The other reason of course is the cost as realistically you are looking at around £15 per record. The costs can spiral especially if you are buying regularly.

I did however break my 10 record rule. I had the bug and ended up on the Defected Records store and bumped into a fantastic little set of three double EPs from The Classic Music Co. I believe it was to celebrate their 30 years in existence. I do plan to write a complete article dedicated to this sublime release as it fully deserves the time! Keep your eyes pealed for that one.
The Classic Music Company
Classic was started in 1994 by friends Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter. More than just a record label, it’s a family of artists who do things their own way and aren’t afraid to be different. The label began releasing vinyl, counting down its catalogue numbers from 100 to zero, before taking a short break and coming back with a fresh sound and more artists on board.
Over the years, Classic has released music from some great names, including Honey Dijon, Horse Meat Disco, Eli Escobar, Crazy P and DJ Spen. The label has enjoyed a real resurgence, bringing its music and community back together through events in Ibiza, Amsterdam and London, showcasing what Classic is all about.
See you tomorrow my faithful subjects!
