Diary of a wax nut – Day 7

Exciting times my people. Although having limited time with the Alpha Theta DJM V5 mixer I can say hand on heart I have never felt instantly more at home on any other mixer. The sound is solid and pre amps seem great which is a massive consideration first and foremost. The features are perfectly in my wheelhouse and the layout is perfection. Build in heavy and solid as you’d expect.

Aiaiai TMA 2 vs Alpha Theta HDJ F10

Both wireless DJ headphones (I’d never have thought I’d ever say that) and the latency of both is so bloody tight it’s incredible and you’d never know you weren’t wired in.

To be honest if the Alpha’s didn’t have Sonic Link where the V5 mixer has the built in receiver I’d have stuck with the Aiaiai TMA2’s. Having said that though at this point I am glad I stumped up for the Alpha’s. The sound, quality and connection is far superior to the Aiaiai offering. The Alpha’s are heavier, the cans are quite large and a little tight on my big old noggin but this hasn’t caused an issue in the few short mixes I’ve had, but I will feed back my experiences when I’ve done a substantial mix.

In short, if the Alpha’s were the size of the Aiaiai’s I’d be 100% happy and sold. I’m sure Alpha Theta will roll out the technology to all new mixers as the v5 is the only ‘mixer’ to currently have it, so therefor I’m sure they will release new haedphones in line with this to the range. Imagine how excited the HD25 fanboys would be if Alpha Theta emulated the Sennheisers with Sonic Link!
