Insitituted 14 December 1914 by Duke Friedrich II of Anhalt. A bronze straight armed cross paty, the obverse centre bears a cipher F in Frakturscrift, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves, a crown on the 12 oclock arm and 1914 on the 6 oclock arm, the reverse centre bears FR VERDIENST IM KRIEGE (FOR MERIT IN WAR), measuring 37. 33 mm (w) x 41. 94 mm (h), on green ribbon with red stripes, very fine.
